In another noteworthy move, Mukesh Ambani, the 14th wealthiest individual globally, valued at around $88.4 billion (approximately Rs 7,32,221 crore) as per Forbes, continues to make significant property strides. Shortly after the sale of his luxurious two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan for Rs 74.5 crore, Ambani is once again in the limelight for his latest venture near Delhi-NCR.
As reported by DNA, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd, is earnestly working on the development of a top-notch smart city. This smart city, named Model Economic Township Limited (Met City), is situated in Haryana and has already managed to secure an investment of Rs 1,200 crore from various companies during the years 2022-2023.
Covering an extensive area of 8,000 acres, the soon-to-come smart city is under construction by Model Economic Township Limited, a subsidiary of RIL. Supported by investments amounting to Rs 1,200 crore from 76 fresh enterprises, this upcoming initiative, backed by Mukesh Ambani’s RIL, has shown promising progress. The sale of 1200 units has boosted its advancement, now totaling to 2000 units sold, as reported by DNA.
Japanese investment
As reported by CNBC TV18, the sprawling Met City located in Jhajjar, Haryana, has already welcomed the presence of four major Japanese corporations: Nihon Kohden, Panasonic, Denso, and T-Suzuki. Mukesh Ambani’s enterprise confirmed this development through an official statement, revealing that Nihon Kohden, specializing in medical devices, conducted a groundbreaking event for their plot within MET City during the latter half of 2022.
Kentaro Kusano, the Managing Director of Nihon Kohden India Pvt Ltd, shared with CNBC TV18 that the new facility surpasses the size of the company’s Gujarat factory by fourfold. This accomplishment signals a significant step forward in the company’s Indian expansion strategy. It aligns with Nihon Kohden’s overarching vision to become a dependable partner in advancing healthcare across the nation.
Next phase goals
Situated near key NCR cities such as Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram, the RIL subsidiary is taking strides in the development of the smart city project. Following the initial investment of Rs 8,000 crore, they are now infusing an additional Rs 1,000 crore in the upcoming phase, as reported by DNA.
Better connectivity
Positioned alongside the Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) Expressway, the Met City enjoys convenient proximity to the Indira Gandhi International Airport. As highlighted in the DNA report, the project is also set to benefit from strong rail connectivity through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).

As per the DNA report, families residing in Met City can enjoy a range of amenities, including access to educational institutions like The Sehwag School and SGT University. Additionally, the smart city provides convenient access to medical services, including a nearby AIIMS institute.
